FAQ
Q: What is a board certified veterinary pathologist?
A: A board certified veterinary pathologist is a veterinarian that has completed three years of residency/graduate training in veterinary pathology and passed a comprehensive board exam testing knowledge of gross, histologic and general pathology as well as current scientific literature pertaining to the discipline. The American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) is the world's largest certifying body, with 1550 diplomates worldwide.
Q: We have developed a new mouse model. Can you come to the lab to assess the phenotype and develop a systematic method for evaluating these mice?
A: Yes, if you are located in Southern Ontario, we offer on-site necropsy and tissue collection. We will work with you to assess the phenotype of the mice, providing training and advice during the process. For remote clients, we provide advice on tissue collection and assess histological aspects of mouse models via consultation and tailored reporting.
Q: A member of the lab is having trouble evaluating a published histological scoring system for a new mouse model. Can you help?
A: Yes, we can work one-on-one with lab staff, providing advice and training regarding the implementation of published histologic scoring systems. If an appropriate histologic scoring system has not been published, we can also collaborate with you to develop a systematic scoring system to meet the needs of the project.
Q: Do you provide pathology services directly to pet or livestock owners?
A: No, Mbed Pathology works with researchers using animal models, clinical veterinarians, and other veterinary pathologists. We do not offer services to the general public.
Q: What do your services cost?
A: Prices are competitive and negotiated on an individual project basis, varying with the nature of the work as well as the needs of the client. A free consultation is provided for all potential clients.
Mbed is conscious of the financial constraints encountered by many academic groups, and is committed to providing our clients with the greatest possible value per research dollar.
